We had an individual trespass on the property. He clearly did not care, feels the laws to do not apply to him, and is disrespectful. The property is posted with “No Trespassing/No Hunting” signs. He walked by at least two of them. He is probably a hunter and is retrieving or catching up to his dogs. This is not a neighbor. Our neighbors are great, respectful, and have asked for permission to access the property if they are hunting and have an appropriate reason to enter the property. Talking with others up North over the years, it sounds like this happens often. Hunters don’t feel the laws are for them, enter/access property without permission, and do not seem to respect private property. Some may/have found this funny making statements: it’s not right, but it happens often, they are just retrieving their dogs, and, they aren’t hurting anything. This is disrespectful and is a safety/liability concern.

This was very frustrating, disrespectful, and interesting how often others say this occurs up North. The culture seems very different up North, which is hard for me to understand. Respect and Laws (I thought) were the same throughout the state. For me (and my brother, cousins), this is frustrating and difficult to accept. We grew up hunting and spent time on private property, where we had permission. We were raised to respect and have permission when accessing/entering property that we did not own. For example, if we were deer hunting, a deer went to property we did not have permission to enter/access, we would knock on the indiviudals door, call the individual, or call the DNR before entering/accessing a property to get permisiion. Our parents, grandparents, and other family members rasied us to respect Landowners (Private Property). By showing respect, actually got things done faster and was appreciated. When taking the time to ask for permission and explaining why we wanted to access/enter an individual’s private property, usually always ended in “Yes” and permission from the landowner to enter/access the property.

We have been in contact with the with our local DNR Warden, the DNR Warden for Taylor county, and are considering options and next steps. The DNR Warden provided a lot of good information regarding State Laws (trespassing), resources, suggestions, and feels we should move forward related to this individual and trespassing on the property. We obviously have pictures of the individual (several more, date/time, property is posted, etc.) and this indivudal doesn’t seem to care, is disrepectful, and feels the Laws do not apply to him. Some may find this funny, feel this is small and don’t see the big issue,  and don’t see any concern with this individual Trespassing on Private Property.  The property is posted, it is disrespectful, there are safety and liability concerns, and Laws in place for these situations.
